Interview with Br. René Stockman, General Superior, Brothers of Charity.

1. What motivates you to attend the November 2024 meeting? And why would you recommend participating?

It is very important that the congregations with a Vincentian spirituality keep contact with each other, in order to have the opportunity to share their experiences, to be motivated to actualize their spirituality and to learn from good practices from each other. The Vincentian spirituality always stays very current and develops new ways to be present in the world. Therefore, it is important that we can meet each other and have the opportunity to share our experiences.

2. Why is it important to walk together as a Vincentian Family?

In the real world, we all need to have platforms where we can come together and share our concerns, our experiences, our questions with people who have to same vision and concerns. Especially in a world which is becoming more and more secularized and individualistic, we should not close ourselves in our small houses, but find and develop ways of contact with others.

3. If you think of the word synodality, what image comes to mind?

Synodality is creating openings to listen to each other, to share with each other and to partake in decision making, and that with respect for each other and open for other visions and opinions. Synodality is always present on the level of our congregations and a substantial part of our existence as congregation. The Church as such can learn a lot from our experience of synodality in the way we are taking decisions in our congregations.
